How Does Obviously Reward Influencers?
As the influencer landscape has changed, more and more influencers are shifting away from using social media as a side-hustle and towards making it their full-time gig. It's not surprising, then, that every day we receive more emails from influencers asking if we pay for projects and if so how much. At Obviously, we know how important it is to be as up-front as possible with our collaborators. It's the ideal way to make sure everyone has a great experience and continues feeling valued and supported for their work. So I'm going to break down our reward system, when we offer payment, and when we don't. This way, we can all be on the same page and have a great time working together.
Why isn't every project paid?
Here's the deal: the majority of our brands are simply not looking for paid spokespeople. They've been doing that for years through traditional, old-school advertising and-- lets be honest-- customers just aren't that into it any more. Our brands are looking for genuine fans of their products who would be shopping for them anyway and are pumped to receive them as gifts. We consider these projects true collaborations, so we offer as much creative freedom as possible. We want you to do what you do best, creating content that fits naturally with your feed. For these projects, we're going to work primarily with micro influencers whose primary passion is outside of social media. These collabs are low-stress, fun, and mutually beneficial for both the brand and influencer.
What kind of rewards do you offer?
We go out of our way to make sure the rewards are totally awesome. We've hooked influencers up with exclusive events, given them first dips on yet-to-be-released products, and sent them on shopping sprees at their favorite stores. Whatever the reward, we'll let you know up front and give you time to decide if its right for you.
In addition to rewards for individual projects, influencers can earn corgis for every post done right. Corgis can be redeemed for cash and other prizes.
So when do you pay influencers?
Your work is valuable, and we would never agree to a project with a brand that we felt takes advantage of influencers or doesn't recognize them for the effort they put in. If you're working on a project with multiple steps, lots of requirements, or just anything beyond a typical post or story, its understandable that you would expect payment, and we're going to make sure that happens.
Can I negotiate for a higher rate?
It never hurts to ask. However, budgets are determined by the brand, so we normally don't have that much wiggle room. If you're on the fence about a project, I always recommend signing up first, because its likely that if you don't someone else will take your place. If it turns out the project doesn't fit your needs, you can always cancel before we really get rolling.
I don't work for gifts. Should I leave the platform?
No! We love working with you and we totally respect whatever policy you set for yourself. If you don't want to be reached out to for gifting projects, just let us know. You probably won't receive as many invitations, but you'll still receive invitations for projects that make sense for you.
Obviously thinks influencers rock, and we want you to have the best possible experience working with our brands. If you have any questions about payments or rewards, feel free to leave them in the comments or contact me directly at email@example.com
