Pets are some of the most popular influencers on social media, and it’s easy to see why. They are lovable, fun, and appealing to almost everyone. But they can also be a lot of work. We reached out to Francesca Jung, the human behind @Nixonthecorgi for insight on what makes running a pet account special.

First off, tell us your name, where you're from, and IG handle: Francesca, Austin, TX, @nixonthecorgi.

When did Nixon first join your family?

Nixon joined our family on July 4th, 2014.

There is no special story behind Nixon's “gotcha” date. We were planning to drive to Nixon's breeder, who was about 1.5 hours away to pick him up. It turned out that his breeders were coming to Austin for the 4th of July weekend. They brought puppy Nixon along and we met them at an Ikea parking lot. We like to joke that Nixon came from Ikea!

He was 8 weeks old when we brought him home. He was so small and adorable. When we saw him it was love at first sight.

What inspired you to create an IG account for Nixon, and how did the two of you get started as influencers?

I originally made Nixon his own account so friends and family could see daily pictures of him. Becoming an influencer was not what I originally planned. However, we started gaining followers after being featured on bigger accounts like @dogsofinstagram. Eventually companies started reaching out for sponsored posts.

How is running a pet account different from other accounts, such as fashion or beauty?

Having a pet account is different because it appeals to almost everyone. Pets have a great way of cheering people up, and I believe it's a great way to make a person's day. I think one thing people don't realize is that taking pictures of pets isn't always easy. Sometime it takes a lot of treats to get good photos :)

How do you go about establishing collaborations with brands as a pet account?

We usually have brands reach out to us directly or through sites like Obviously.

What is Nixon's favorite hobby, aside from posing for pictures?

Nixon LOVES playing fetch! He will fetch almost anything but he has a love for tennis balls.

What is one fun fact about Nixon?

Nixon's favorite treat is watermelon :)

Anything else you'd like to share with us?

Nixon has a condition called Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency (EPI). Unfortunately, his pancreas doesn't produce enough digestive enzymes that allow him to break down food and absorb it's nutrients. We supplement his diet with enzymes. It helps him be the healthy, fun dog he is!

What is the best part about being Nixon's person?

Nixon's personality is the greatest. He is very friendly towards people and especially children. He loves to cuddle with anyone. Corgi cuddles are the best.
