Bree Elle Gardner

For me, Pride is about remembering queer resilience and resistance in the face of that history, and drawing from it in order to face down the work we have in front of us today.

Name/Preferred pronouns: Bree Elle Gardner (Bree Elle for short), and my pronouns are ze/zir/zirs.

What you do at Obviously: Senior Software Engineer

Favorite TV show: The Americans! I binged most of it over an embarrassingly short timespan.

Favorite food: Really, really hard to pick, but probably mapo tofu.

One fun fact about you: My hobby is basically collecting hobbies - I love knowing how to do things, impractical or not, so in the last few years I've picked up (and usually practiced less than I would like!) embroidery, sewing, soldering, making kimchi, cheese and kombucha, playing piano and ukulele, and so on (and on...)

What does Pride mean to you and why is it important for companies like Obviously to celebrate Pride? It can be easy to forget, especially in the Bay, just what it was like the be queer in the US in the not-so-distant past where doing so was criminal. For me, Pride is about remembering queer resilience and resistance in the face of that history, and drawing from it in order to face down the work we have in front of us today. When companies like Obviously celebrate Pride, they have an opportunity to be an ally in that work by sending the clear signal that LGBT people have a place and a voice within them.

Alexis DeCarvalho

Working for a company that celebrates Pride is truly a gift because it allows you to be your authentic self all of the time, not just at home or on the weekends.

Name/Preferred pronouns: Alexis, She/Her

What you do at Obviously: Senior Client Success Manager

Favorite TV show: Grey's Anatomy, Meredith Grey is 100000% my spirit animal

Favorite food: Grilled Cheese (check out Cheese Grille on the LES! My go to is the original with fries and Chipotle Aioli)

One fun fact about you: I loved making BuzzFeed quizzes in college. My favorite was Which Grilled Cheese Is Your Soulmate? (see, cheese)

What does Pride mean to you and why is it important for companies like Obviously to celebrate Pride?

Pride to me is something that's been the most complex part of my journey. I didn't always have pride, and sometimes I still struggle to find it. Social media has played such an integral role in coming to terms with myself. Seeing people on social media freely celebrating their sexuality instead of hiding it (@kateaustinn@kristen_mckenzie@allieandsam, to name a few) has helped me feel more comfortable in my own skin. Working for a company that celebrates Pride is truly a gift because it allows you to be your authentic self all of the time, not just at home or on the weekends.
