The Power of the Micro Influencer

The terms micro and macro influencer get thrown around a lot these days, but there’s a lot of confusion around what they really mean.  Chances are, if you’re working with Obviously you fall into the category of micro-influencer. We define this as anyone with below 100K followers and this is our bread-and-butter.

Of course, the phrase micro means small, but don’t let that fool you. Micro influencers are powerful, and knowing your strengths and your value to the industry can help you market yourself to brands.  The truth is, people are tired of the same old advertising schemes.  The majority of millennials use ad blockers so we don’t have to see pop ups and banner ads cluttering up our social media pages. We’re interested in celebrities as entertainment, but we’re not going to run out and buy something just because our favorite actor or sports figure shows up in a commercial.  We’re just too smart for that.

This is where micro influencers come in.  Your role is different than traditional spokespeople, because you work with brands you actually love.  And that’s not lip service; every day we have influencers turn down projects because they don’t sincerely like the brand or it doesn’t fit their aesthetic.  You may think we get annoyed when that happens, but its actually just the opposite.  We love that the people who work with us are honest.  You truly love these brands and they love you back!

Millennials are 10X more likely to buy a product based off an influencer recommendation than that of a celebrity.  That’s huge!  If I were to guess, I’d say this is because it just feels better to get a recommendation for a product from someone you trust.  Even if they don’t know you personally, your followers feel connected to you because you share yourself every day with them through your social profile.  And, of course, promoting products is only a very small portion of what you are doing with your social presence.  Most of the time, you’re sharing what you love freely, offering insights, advice, and a compelling snapshot into your lives.  That’s the reason why most of our influencers have engagement rates that are much higher than average. Audiences know that if you say you like something, you mean it.

Micro influencers are not advertisers, You’re creatives.  You’re innovative, authentic, and unique, and every day you continue to surprise and inspire us.  We’re fortunate to be on the cutting-edge of a better way to market. Thank you for being amazing!
